What's in a name?

I've been on the internet since it started basically and there is one discussion forum where I have been a member for 17 years. This means that I grew up there and they know me by my nickname. I'm not anonymous, but Bebelina is who they know me as, what they call me and probably have created an image of. I was a baby (31) when I joined that forum, so the nickname is suitable in that sense. To go back there and talk and be referred to as Bebelina is a bit funny though, but cute, it warms my heart. 31 may not be a baby to you, but on the planet I come from it is. I am very thankful to be a part of that community of intelligent people. They have taught me so much. It also got me thinking about how we in the early days of the internet identified and were identified more by our nick names than we are today. Since anonymity is not really on the plate anymore and it's easy to find out who is behind a nick name, then most people just don't bother to use them. But in the early days, we were our nick names. I was Bebelina and she was really something.

People made paintings of Bebelina.
